Although Legionellosis is a relatively new disease, which was first recorded in 1976, after an outbreak of pneumonia in a Philadelphia hotel that affected the members of the American Legion who were celebrating their annual convention, the Legionella bacterium is naturally found in almost all aquatic environments (rivers, lakes, etc).

From its natural environment, the bacterium starts to colonize the cities's supply systems and, through the distribution network, it reaches the domestic water installations or other facilities that require the use of water for their operation (cooling systems , irrigation, swimming pools, washing tunnels, etc).

If the appropriate measures are followed, such as the establishment of a correct therapy in patients and the control of buildings, at present the infection can be considered perfectly controllable. In spite of that, the contamination of the interior environments of buildings is the cause of several health problems.

With an eminently practical approach, during the Congress the causes of the distortion of the internal environment will be analyzed, as well as the initiatives and strategies that will guarantee its suitability in a sustainable manner, focusing this study on the variables that significantly influence in this sense : air quality, hygiene conditions and risk factors of legionellosis.

Communications will last 10 minutes + 5 minutes of discussion.

It is recommended to use the font "Arial" size 10. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to pass a communication to poster or paper. Before January 15, 2019Participants will be informed of the committee's decision.

You have to send a summary of one page, maximum, to info@cresca.upc.edu Placement: during the registration period February 13 between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. In the opinion of the Scientific Committee, the best posters will be passed on to oral communication. Before January 15, 2019Participants will be informed of the committee's decision.

How to get there

• By plane: From Barcelona airport you can take trains from 6.13 am to 10.43 pm every 30 minutes. You must change at Plaça Catalunya and take a train to Terrassa or Manresa.
• By train: From the stations of Sants, Catalunya, Arc de Triomf and Sant Andreu Arenal, you can take the RENFE train. The FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) also provide service to Terrassa. The two options are recommended.
• By car: Terrassa is connected to Barcelona by the C-58 motorway, and also the C-17 road. Both roads are taken at the northern end of the city from Meridiana Avenue. It is also possible to take the A-2 motorway from the city on the Diagonal avenue to the south and connect with the A-7 motorway and the C-58 towards Terrassa. Finally, there is the possibility of taking the E-9 motorway, which passes through the Vallvidrera tunnels. This road is toll and allows the journey in 10 minutes.
